10th ANNIVERSARY AGM

Raewyn's marvellous cake

A very successful AGM was held on the 22 July with a good turnout of members and some visitors from other SeniorNets. We farwelled Cathie from our Committee but have now been joined by Ruby.

On the day several of our members who have been around from the beginning and a little later, reminisced a bit about the past. We were also pleased to hear from Mr. SeniorNet himself, Jack Hazlett.

Later the Chairman's wife cut the cake which had been so wonderfully made by Raewyn.

To give some details of our background -

The idea to start a SeniorNet in the Hutt came following a talk on the 16 March 1998 by Grant Sidaway to the
Combined Probus Club of Hutt. Our major sponsors at our start up were Telecom NZ and the Rotary Club of Western Hutt.

The first meeting of the Steering Committee was held on the 23 November 1998 with our Incorporation taking place on the 24 December 1998.

A great deal of thanks is owed to those who worked so hard and diligently a decade ago (many of whom are still hard at work today) as well as the tremendous assistance we got from New Zealand's first SeniorNet, Wellington.

CHANGE OF DATE FOR TVNZ SENIORNET PROGRAM

TV ONE NEWS SENIORNET ITEM - CHANGE OF DATE
TV ONE NEWS - MONDAY 27 JULY

TV1 have advised that it is anticipated that the item will now be broadcast on

MONDAY 27 JULY.

It is possible that it will be in the Closeup program and not the actual news bulletin itself so keep your eyes open.

We will keep you informed as best we can but, as you know, we are not at the Centre every day so the easiest way to keep in touch with what is going on, with this or any other SeniorNet matter, is by visiting this Blog on a regular basis.

WE ARE ON TV ONE - WE HOPE

Watch the TV One news next Monday

TVNZ have been filming at the Learning Centre today and as well, last Wednesday, they interviewed Jeanette our Tutor Co-ordinator about our wonderful organisation. This opportunity to gain some publicity for SeniorNet was brought about thanks to Grant Sidaway.

The item is supposed to be on TV One News on Monday 20 July but, as we all know with news and television in particular, if something more important arises then other items have to wait. So we have our fingers crossed.

At the Centre various others featured in demonstrating Card Making so it will be interesting to see how much makes it to the screen.

So set your eyes and recorders for Monday night.

This Friday 17 July at 10 AM we are to host our Tutors and Support Staff at a morning tea. This is not only an acknowledgment of the wonderful work they do but it will also enable us to show them the new rooms up and running.

Plus at a later date we intend to host a morning tea for some of the other tenants with a view to promote our business.

UP & RUNNING ELECTRONICALLY

The Learning Centre is once again in contact with the big wide world with both 'phone and Internet operations up and running thanks to the Tech Team.

Organising and arranging the equipment is progressing well and although it was well planned as to where everything would go there were still some small improvements and adjustments to be made once we got the equipment in.

We have plans to host an open day and
morning tea for the Tutors and support people shortly. We also have plans to host a morning tea for the other tenants to give them some background as to what we are about and hopefully, gain some more members.
