ALL MOVED

Thanks to the 20 or so helpers and some reasonable weather as well as some hard work we have now moved everything to our new Learning Centre at Laings Road. Final tidying up will now commence and the Tech Team will get into action and start work upon getting our phone and internet connections up and running again as soon as possible.

Here are some pictures of the move.

COUNTDOWN MODE

We are now into countdown mode with planning well advanced for the move.

Just a few of the many things that our volunteers have been hard at work doing are planning where the desks etc are to go pending final installation of the electronics, organising the new locks, installing a security grill, tidying up and packing all our files, destroying unwanted material, cleaning up, obtaining building security codes, arranging our electricity connection, transferring our telecommunications network and so on.

We will be having a TelstraClear cable connection at Laings Road which we hope will mean a faster internet connection.

Some pictures of the new premises taken prior to our move are below and in due course we will post pictures of the finished product. The premises are quite light but the photos are a bit dark as no power connection was on when they were taken.

ANNUAL REPORT

The June Newsletter and Annual Report for the 2009 year have now both been emailed and snail mailed (posted). Sorry, but we had some technical problems with emailing the Annual Report but following a conversion to a PDF file this has now been overcome. Our apologies if you have received the Annual Report more than once.

NEWSLETTER & UPDATE

Newsletter: The June Newsletter has been emailed. If you haven't received yours as yet we find that it is usually because either you haven't advised your email address or you have changed your ISP without telling us. Usually, we are not in a position (read - nobody will volunteer) to chase up those whose emails bounce - so they miss out.

Premises Update: Planning continues satisfactorily with Sunday being the big day when we will move the large items. Thank you to those who have offered to help.
Hey, wait for me...

AGM: Formal notice that the AGM will be held at the Avalon Pavilion starting at 2 PM on Wednesday the 22 July has been given in the Newsletter . We expect the Annual Report to be emailed this week. To save postage, we will be posting the Newsletter and the Annual Report together to those not on email.

We have also asked for catering purposes that
those who intend to come to please let us know by email/phone as soon as possible.

NEW PREMISES

NEW PREMISES
ROOM 202, 2nd FLOOR,
HUTT CITY DENTAL
CENTRE BUILDING,

14 LAINGS ROAD
LOWER HUTT

All our Tutors and support people have been advised that we have signed a lease to rent the above premises as from Monday 15 June. Members will be emailed full advices, including rental details, on our takeover date. With our final day at Andrews Avenue being 30 June we will all be extremely busy over the next few weeks carrying out the removal of our equipment and re-installation in the new premises.

So all classes from Term 3
(which now starts on 27 July) will be held at the new Laings Road premises.

Access is easy; just take the lift to the second floor and turn right, continue around until you reach Room 202. We will be arranging signage.

Rental is slightly dearer than before, plus we now have to pay for electricity which was built in previously. However, we have 25% more space and a 3x3x3 lease so we believe this is an excellent outcome.

Because of the layout, present planning is that one class will have one less student than now (still 2 tutors) while the other will have one more student – almost certainly with 3 tutors

The kitchen is shared and so the premises will be utilised for tea breaks. However, we intend to simplify matters so that when we have two classes they will have their break at the same time. Toilets are up one half floor/down one half floor to separate male/female toilets.
